What the Spot??

Not sure which light to use for your trees? Let’s clear things up.

Choosing the right garden spotlight isn’t about “bigger is better”, it’s about context. A 3W spike can beautifully light a gum tree when you’re standing outside at night. But look at that same light from inside a brightly lit room and… you’ll barely notice it. Your eyes adjust, and suddenly wattage matters a lot more.

Our quick rule of thumb

For most gardens, we work on a simple guide:
1 watt ≈ 1 metre of tree height.

It’s not a hard-and-fast rule, but it’s a great place to start. Still unsure? Chat with our team. If you’re in Adelaide, you can even borrow samples to test in your own garden. Interstate? Start with a couple of fittings and adjust from there, you’ll know very quickly what works.

Meet the Spotlight Family

🔥 Firefly 3W Spike Spotlight

Best for trees, plants and features up to 3m

Small but mighty, the Firefly is our most-used spike spotlight and for good reason. It delivers a warm, inviting glow while staying subtle in the garden.

Compact, durable and easy to reposition, its adjustable head makes it perfect for ornaments, pots, feature plants and smaller trees.

🌸 Lotus 5W Spike Spotlight

Best for trees and plants up to 5m

The Lotus is the all-rounder. Choose a 60° beam for wide canopies or a 40° beam when you need extra reach.

With refined styling and a compact form (just 68mm diameter), it slips seamlessly into both contemporary and classic landscapes making it powerful, but never overbearing.

🌿 Willow 11.5W Spike Spotlight

Best for trees and plants up to 15m

Don’t let its size fool you. The Willow punches well above its weight, comfortably lighting tall trees with impressive efficiency.

Available in a wide 60° beam or a narrower 30° option, it’s ideal for large Australian gums or spaces where strong, focused lighting really matters.

🌳 Karri 20W Flood Light

Best for trees and plants up to 25m

When you want impact, the Karri delivers. This is one of our most powerful spike lights, designed to light large, mature trees with ease.

Its powder-coated dark grey finish blends naturally into the landscape while creating bold, dramatic lighting that brings serious wow-factor to the garden.

So… what’s the right spot?

It all comes down to the effect you’re chasing. From the discreet Firefly to the dramatic Karri, each fitting is built to perform, endure the elements and make your garden shine.

Pro tip 🌳

When it comes to larger trees, more is usually better. Using two (or more) lower-powered lights will almost always give a nicer result than one big, powerful fitting.

Multiple lights create better balance and a more natural, 3D-looking result, revealing depth, texture and canopy shape. Relying on a single light often means branches block the beam, leaving parts of the tree in shadow and the effect looking flat or patchy.

A little layering goes a long way... and your trees will thank you for it!!
